We've been following the movement of the anti-marriage amendment in the Indiana legislature through via our Hoosier friends at Bilerico. Bil Browning has the latest:
An Indiana state senate committee passed a marriage discrimination amendment this morning, moving the proposal one step forward to passage. The legislation now goes to the full senate for passage. At this point, it's pretty clear this amendment is based on pure homophobia and hate.
The measure passed on a 7-3 vote. After every Fortune 500 company based in Indiana opposed the proposed amendment, prominent Republican and Democrat politicians expressed reservations, the majority of newspapers in the state expressed disdain for it, and public polling showed that most Hoosiers oppose the amendment, Republican legislators still decided to push the measure through.
And, if I were a State legislator in Indiana, not sure I'd be pissing off Bil Browning.
