Apparently, Indiana legislators haven't gotten the memo that marriage is no longer a wedge issue. Yesterday, the Indiana Senate passed the anti-marriage amendment. Actually, they went the extra step and banned civil unions, too. Seriously, that's so 2004. This won't go to the voters unless it is passed by the next legislature in 2013.

The Senate approved the ban 40-10 Tuesday, a month after the House passed it 70-26.Well, as we know, the homophobes lie. And, this action by the Indiana legislature is based solely on homophobia.
"The family is the basic unit of our society and has been since Adam and Eve," said Sen. Dennis Kruse, R-Auburn, the resolution's House sponsor. He said marriage "should be the union of one man and one woman."
The public was unable to watch senators debate and vote Tuesday because Senate President Pro Tempore David Long, R-Fort Wayne, decided to close the balcony after audience members interrupted a debate on the ban Monday with chants of "stop hating, stop dividing, stop pandering."
Opponents and some legal scholars fear that vague language could keep companies from offering domestic partner benefits or could prevent a gay couple from drawing up a contract ensuring they could visit each other in the hospital. Proponents dismiss those concerns, saying those rights won't be affected.
