The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network is sponsoring an action to call the members of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee to defend against a nasty hostile repeal amendment which is an anticipated blatant attempt to overturn any positive action taken to dismantle the odious "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.
The national defense authorization bill reported out of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee attempts to lay a foundation for an anticipated hostile repeal amendment, taking a page out of the 1993 "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" debate by citing the "unique nature, demands, and hardships of military service" and the "forced intimacy and little privacy" inherent in some military working conditions. The opposition set the stage, and the subcommittee approved this thinly veiled homophobic language lifted almost word-for-word from the 1993 statute authorizing DADT.AMERICAbloggers, you know what to do. The full House Armed Services Committee (HASC) will meet and will likely vote on a hostile repeal amendment next Wednesday, May 11th.
We cannot sit idly by as repeal opponents cook up their latest scheme to turn back the clock and keep discrimination on the books. We still have time to call HASC members and tell them to oppose this dangerous obstructionism.
