There's a surprise, another southern bigot politician joining the long history of southern bigot politicians.
North Carolina House Majority Leader Paul “Skip” Stam on Tuesday likened gay marriage to incest and polygamy.
“What I'm saying is,” [North Carolina House Majority Leader Paul “Skip”] Stam went on to explain, “you cannot construct an argument for same sex-marriage that would not also justify philosophically the legalization of polygamy and adult incest.” (The audio is embedded in the right panel of this page.)Uh, yeah you can. Hetero marriage is limited to two consenting adults, so why can't marriages for gay couples? Does hetero marriage per se mean we have to let 3 or more heterosexuals marry? Stam later suggested that being gay was a choice.
When asked how the ban would differ from misogyny laws [sic - I'm assuming the writer means "miscegenation"], Stam answered: “People can't change their race. They can't chose their race. And there was no biological basis for it to start with, whereas ...”
Then again, bigots, like racists before them, aren't really interested in logic and facts.
