The funny thing is that they're actually being slightly less anti-gay in order to appease the Teabaggers. The Tea Party wants the federal government to cede party to the states, so on marriage equality Perry and Bachmann have been talking about states should decide. Then the religious right got upset because they don't want states like NY to be able to decide to let gays marry, so Perry and Bachmann also, contradictorily, support the Federal Marriage Amendment, to ban gay marriage in the US Constitution.
Still, it's interesting that the Tea Party, of all things, is making Perry and Bachmann, of all people, squirm on the FMA.
