Ari Fleischer questions why Romney pulled gay spokesman

And that's the ten thousand dollar question: Why did Mitt Romney cave to pressure from anti-gay religious right Republicans from the git-go. From Greg Sargent at the Washington Post:

Why was [now-former openly-gay Romney foreign policy spokesman Ric] Grenell completely absent from the public stage in the last few days, when his subject area — foreign policy issues — were front and center in the political conversation?

Ari Fleischer, a former Bush administration official and one of Grenell’s most vocal defenders, raised that question in a telephone interview moments ago.

“Why wasn’t Rick the spokesman in the last couple of days, when foreign policy was paramount? That’s the piece I don’t understand,” Fleischer said. “I don’t know why he wasn’t the spokesman on foreign policy for the last several days. It’s something that nobody understands.”
As background, in case you've been living under a rock, Romney's openly gay foreign policy spokesman stepped down yesterday after two weeks of abuse from the religious right, who objected to him being gay. Romney, we now find out, pulled Grenell several days ago, if not weeks ago according to another report.

When Mitt Romney got the 3am phone call - hell, this isn't even the 3am phone call, it's like the 9pm phone call - he freaked out for two weeks, then caved. So I guess Mitt is, yet again, anti-gay, after being pro-gay, then anti-gay, then pro-gay.
