We learn via ThinkProgress on Twitter that the last time North Carolina amended the state constitution about marriage it wasn't very pretty.
North Carolina's Constitution, 1875: "All marriages between a white person and a negro, or between a white person and a person of negro descent to the third generation inclusive, are hereby forever prohibited."
