This is good news. Wasserman-Schultz has been a long time ally and champion of the complete recognition of our rights.
President Barack Obama has just appointed U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, chair of the Democratic National Committee, Politico reports.Indeed, Debbie has a fighting spirit and you don't want to be on the other side of any debate with her. This is a positive move for our LGBT community.
Last year, gay-rights group Equality Florida honored Wasserman Schultz with a Voice for Equality Award.
"She's with us, an absolute champion when it comes to equality, first as a legislator in Florida," Equality Florida Executive Director Nadine Smith said in 2010. "She's brought that fighting spirit to Washington, D.C. She was with us on hate crimes, ENDA [Employment Non-Discrimination Act], marriage equality. She's a founding member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus."
