So the Obama administration has reversed its decision to permit gay marriages on military bases

Who's brilliant idea was it to move on this now? It was guaranteed to cause a firestorm, and it was guaranteed that the administration would flip out and shut it down. I said as much to a number of political contacts in town, privately, when the news broke. And lo and behold, it's shut down.

That means either this information was leaked by the Pentagon, in order to shut it down, or someone in the administration is terribly stupid if they thought this wouldn't cause a firestorm.

Now, what am I suggesting? Not that they should have decided not to permit marriages, but rather, that they put the decision off until later this year, once we have the repeal in full swing. Why trot it out now? What possible benefit was there, other than to get it shot down, which it was.
