So Bert and Ernie are "ex-gay"?

The producers of Sesame Street, oddly, felt the need to clarify Bert & Ernie's sexual orientation yesterday in a statement (seriously). From the NY Post:

"Bert and Ernie are best friends," the producers said in a statement.

"Even though they are identified as male charac ters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets do), they remain puppets and do not have a sexual orientation."

Sounds awfully cagey to me.  Then again, there was that time that Bert was seen with Bin Laden in Pakistan.
