It's pretty thin ice the school is on here. They claim it wasn't because he's gay. How do we know that? Because, the school tells us, there are laws that don't let you fire people for being gay. Cute. The laws don't stop you from from firing someone for being gay. They punish you for firing someone for being gay. So the existence of the law is not proof that you didn't break the law.
As for the photos the coach posted. They're supposedly a photo with two drag queens, and a photo of him eating a corn dog (one assumes, suggestively). And of course, an anonymous letter threatened the school if they didn't fire him, so they did. I'm pretty sure that if "anonymous" didn't have the nerve to sign the letter in the first place, it's unlikely that they'd go public afterwards.
You can debate the propriety of the photos all you like, but if schools are actually suggesting that no one who has ever posed with a drag queen in a photo, and no one who has ever made a suggestive joke about a hot dog, can ever be hired as a teacher, well, then you're going to be losing a lot of teachers.
