That title pretty much tells you all you need to know. If an officially-designated hate group is upset with how your company handles its advertising, then you must be doing something right.
JC Penney should keep in mind a few things about the American Family Association, the group leading the "boycott":
1. It's no entirely clear if the AFA has ever held an effective boycott of anyone. In fact, this blog beat the AFA when the multi-million dollar organization tried to get Ford Motor Company to stop advertising in the gay press. If they're such an all-powerful organization representing millions of Americans, then how did two bloggers beat them?
2. The AFA has officially been designated a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
3. The AFA has a history of anti-semitism.
4. Just recently the AFA said that "it is all together right to discriminate against homosexuals."
5. Bryan Fischer, the AFA spokesman who appears in the CNN piece, says that gay people should be thrown in jail.
You now understand why the SPLC has designated the AFA as a hate group - and a rather ineffective one at that. JP Penney should keep all of that in mind when dealing, or not dealing, with these folks.
