Paul Ryan slams gay marriage. RR must have gotten to him.

I was waiting for the flop after yesterday's flip. It's always less than a day after Team Romney/Ryan do or say something almost sane that the far right controlling the GOP gets to them, and suddenly Romney/Ryan are to the right of Atila the Hun just in time for the evening news.

Yesterday, Paul Ryan surprised everyone by saying that he didn't think DADT should un-repealed.

So what happens next? A particularly offensive comment from Ryan about marriage equality, clearly to make up for the pro-gayness that he showed yesterday.

Paul Ryan has awfully purty hair for a straight Republican

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm used to politicians in Washington caring about their hair.  John Kerry and Mitt Romney are only two politicians who exemplify men who care a bit too much about their hair (for straight guys, at least).

But Paul Ryan.  Now there's a man who brings the notion of caring about your hair to a whole new level.

This guy does things with his hair that I try and fail to pull off on a regular basis. The whole push it all down flat to the front then do the swoosh at the tip thing.  I can't do it.  Have tried, and failed, every time I get a hair cut.  My haircutter can do it, I can't.  Ryan, however, does it perfectly.  (Unless he has someone do his hair for him every day, which would then be a story in and of itself.)  And I don't know why, but I find it a bit creepy when a straight right-wing guy in his 40s tries to look like some 20-something hipster or some 40-something queen.

I'm not suggesting that Paul Ryan is a queen, though he sure is purty for his age, and sure has purty hair that he obviously cares an awful lot about (just sayin').  I just think it's interesting that, for a politician who cares a bit too much about his hair, Paul Ryan takes the ritual to a whole new level.  It says something about the man.  At the very least, it suggests that he's sexy and he knows it.  Which is not a very admirable trait in anyone.

Ask Ryan if he still supports ENDA gay rights law he voted for in 07

I'm getting tired of gay conservatives crowing about how Paul Ryan is more pro-gay than even Mitt Romney (yes, even Mitt Romney, who once bragged about being more pro-gay than Ted Kennedy, but now doesn't support anything pro-gay at all).

Ryan, the gay Republicans tell us, voted for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), legislation outlawing job discrimination based on sexual orientation.  What the Gay Rs don't tell you is that Ryan then turned around and voted to kill the bill.

So it'd be fairer to say that Ryan, like his partner in the campaign, Mitt Romney, is somewhat "bi" when it comes to his support for the civil rights of gays and lesbians.

But why leave it to the gay Rs to define Paul Ryan.  Let the man himself clear up any confusion.  Some intrepid reporter needs to ask Paul Ryan if he still supports the ENDA gay rights bill that he voted for in 2007.  Whatever the answer, it'll certainly make news. Read the rest of this post...

What is Romney VP Paul Ryan's position on gay rights?

Absolutely awful. He voted once for ENDA, then turned around and voted against it (likely when the religious right got a hold of him). That's it. Otherwise he's been terrible on everything.

Ryan is Romney's VP choice.

It’s not simply that Ryan is reluctant to take the plunge on marriage rights for same-sex couples. Throughout his years in Congress, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the Washington-based LGBT lobby, has identified only one instance in which the 42-year-old Wisconsin Republican has ever taken a pro-LGBT position.

In 2007, Ryan was one of 35 Republicans to vote for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which at that time only proposed to protect against job bias based on sexual orientation, not gender identity or expression.

Ryan’s advocacy didn’t last long, however. When Republicans unsuccessfully tried a parliamentary maneuver to shelve the bill after passage –– with what is known as a motion to recommit –– he joined 26 other GOP ENDA supporters in the unsuccessful effort to kill the bill they had voted for just moments before.

HRC does not issue congressional scorecards until the end of a two-year session, so no rating is available for 2011-2012. In the prior five scorecards, Ryan received four zeroes and one rating of 10 out of 100, for his half-hearted support of ENDA in 2007.

I've never been one to trust the pretty straight boys.
