Radical anti-Islam pastor lynches Obama in effigy over gay marriage, abortion

He claims it's not a threat, and merely a metaphor.  There's a photo over on Towleroad.  It sure looks like the lynching of a black man, which has always been intended to be a threat for over 100 years of American history.

Baptists give standing ovation to pastor who called for gays to die

And you'll know they are Christians by their love.  MSNBC:

Although gay rights and anti-hate groups responded with outrage when a North Carolina pastor called for gays and lesbians to be fenced in so they eventually die off, he was greeted with a standing ovation by his church members when he approached the pulpit, the Hickory Record reported.

“I appreciate all the support,” Pastor Charles Worley told the 100 or so congregants at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C. on Sunday, according to the Record. Several members stood and spoke out; others threw up their hands in support of their pastor.

I wonder how many of these folks were cheering for anti-miscegenation laws as well. I suspect many.

But Worley may have hindered the efforts of those who champion his cause, Jay Michaelson, author of “Gay vs. God? The Religious Case for Equality” wrote on Huffington Post. He said that Worley’s comments are “undermining the efforts of more moderate gay-bashers like the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins to disguise anti-gay bias as something other than hatred.”

I come from a part of the country where we don't really use words like redneck or trash, and we didn't really have much of an impression about the South, either way.  Especially since my family immigrated to the US more than half a century after the Civil War - wasn't really my battle.

A straight North Carolinian weighs in about Amendment One

Last night, North Carolinians passed Amendment One. As they should be, many North Carolinians are disappointed. Amendment One is discriminatory, short-sighted, ignorant, regressive, and brings big government into your bedroom. A more offensive over-reach (from various political angles) I cannot recall.

My out-of-state friends are busy making fun of North Carolina today, and it hurts. The way they see it, all North Carolinians are a bunch of rednecks — back water, backwards bigots stuck in the 1920s — legislating against gay people, and unwed couples, and non-traditional families.

Hell, maybe we are.

But the only way that perception of us changes is if North Carolinians stay here, and do what needs to be done to make this right – for gay people, for unwed couples, for children — for our state.

GOP lawmaker and Baptist minister cites Bible passage calling for gays to be put to death

And guess where he's from?

Racist Mississippi, of course.

That would be the state where a plurality of Republican voters still want to outlaw inter-racial marriage.

Someone needs to ask Andy Gipson where he stands on that issue - it would be fun to watch him lose votes by coming out in favor of the co-mingling of the races.

A few fun facts about Mississippi:

- Mississippi is the lynching capital of America.
- It's also the poverty capital of the United States.
- And the hunger capital.
- And the chlamydia capital.
- And the gonorrhea capital.
- And the obesity capital.
- And the child death capital.
- It's America's least healthy state.
- It ranks last in science education.
- And has America's lowest life expectancy (the south takes up most of the bottom 11 spots on the list).

Whatever all those Republican and Baptist bigots are doing in Mississippi, it doesn't seem to be working terribly well.  I guess they're just not praying enough. Read the rest of this post...
